Two Crewmembers Hospitalized After Tanker Fire Incident in Philippines

The Philippine Coast Guard is actively managing a fire on the tanker Gindara, which was docked at the Balayan Distillery in Calaca, south of Manila. The fire reportedly originated in the vessel’s engine room and has since spread to the accommodation block and bridge area. Local fire teams and the city disaster management office have joined the Coast Guard in responding to the incident.

At the time of the fire, there were 22 crew members aboard. The Coast Guard confirmed that 20 crew members are safe, while two sustained injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals; their current conditions remain unknown. The Coast Guard has deployed the 144-foot multi-role response vessel BRP Malapascua to assist with firefighting efforts. As of Thursday, no new flames were detected on the bridge or superstructure, although smoke continued to be visible.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and the Coast Guard plans to initiate an investigation once firefighting operations conclude. The situation remains under close observation as authorities work to ensure the safety of the crew and the surrounding area.
