Wärtsilä has unveiled NTPRO 7, a cutting-edge bridge and ship-handling simulator aimed at modernizing maritime training. This next-generation platform addresses the maritime sector’s swift transition to digital navigation and the increasing complexity of vessel operations. As training institutions face heightened demands, NTPRO 7 is designed to equip crews with the skills necessary for contemporary maritime challenges.

The simulator builds on Wärtsilä’s established navigational simulation technology, offering realistic training environments for advanced ship-handling, navigation, and decision-making. Recently, it received a Statement of Compliance from DNV, confirming its suitability for navigation training. Johan Ekvall, Director of Simulation & Training at Wärtsilä Marine, emphasized that NTPRO 7 will help institutions adapt to evolving maritime technologies and regulatory standards.

Notable features of NTPRO 7 include RealSea visualization powered by Unreal Engine 5, an advanced sound system, and new conning displays that replicate actual ship systems. The platform also supports S-100 ready digital navigation training, incorporating Wärtsilä’s advanced electronic chart navigation system. With tools like Virtual Watchkeeper and AI-driven voice recognition, the simulator enhances realism and decision-making practice.

NTPRO 7 is designed for flexibility, offering scalable configurations from full-mission simulators to classroom setups. This adaptability allows training institutions to provide high-quality training in complex scenarios without physical risks. Following extensive testing, NTPRO 7 will be available commercially starting May 2026.
