The Yemeni authorities in Sanaa have addressed the ongoing speculation regarding a blockade on the Bab al-Mandab strait, firmly denying such claims. Mohammed Abdulsalam, the head of Yemen’s national negotiating delegation, stated on social media platform “X” that there is no closure of the strait, countering assertions made by some parties.
Abdulsalam clarified that Yemen’s official position, as expressed by the Yemeni Armed Forces, only involves a maritime ban directed at Saudi Arabia. This action is a response to the ongoing siege imposed on Yemen and the refusal to accept any fair solution that ensures the security, sovereignty, and independence of the Yemeni people.
In recent statements, Abdulsalam also dismissed Saudi Arabia’s denials regarding its role in the blockade, asserting that evidence points to Riyadh’s direct involvement in the destruction of Sanaa International Airport. He noted that the Saudi regime initiated its aggression against Yemen by targeting the airport on March 26, 2015, which resulted in significant damage to both aircraft and facilities.
Furthermore, Abdulsalam criticized any entity, aside from Saudi Arabia, attempting to control access to Sanaa International Airport while claiming not to impose a blockade on Yemen, emphasizing that such claims contradict reality.
