Indonesian Crew Freed After Somalia Hijacking Return Safely

Four Indonesian crew members from the MT Honour 25 have safely returned home after being held captive by an armed group following the vessel’s hijacking off the coast of Somalia. The crew members, identified as Captain Ashari Samadikun, Second Officer Adi Faizal, Chief Officer Wahudinanto, and Fiki Mutakin, arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on October 6, 2026, after enduring months of captivity. The hijacking occurred on April 22, 2026, near Hafun, northeastern Somalia.

The successful return of the crew was facilitated through negotiations involving the Indonesian Embassy in Nairobi, the Embassy in Islamabad, and the Consulate General in Karachi. Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs, Sugiono, emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting its citizens abroad and assured that the crew would receive necessary medical care after their ordeal. He expressed gratitude to the various government agencies and stakeholders involved in securing their release.

Prior to their return, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs ensured that the crew’s welfare was prioritized, maintaining communication with local authorities and community leaders in Somalia. The MT Honour 25 had a total of 15 crew members, including individuals from Pakistan, India, and Myanmar.
