The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) recently met with the eight Filipino crew members of MV Solong, which was involved in a tragic incident off the northeast coast of England on March 10. Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac personally assured the seafarers of full support and assistance from the government. Financial aid was already provided to the crew members upon their arrival on March 18, and additional assistance will continue to be given.
The collision between MV Solong and oil tanker Stena Immaculate in the North Sea resulted in the loss of one Filipino crew member, who remains missing as of March 13. The DMW stated that an official investigation into the incident is ongoing, with UK authorities working in conjunction with the flag states of the vessels involved. The missing seaman was last seen at the bow of the vessel, where a fire broke out after a massive explosion.
Despite the tragic circumstances, the DMW is committed to supporting the Filipino crew members of MV Solong during this difficult time. The government will provide necessary assistance to help the seafarers cope with the aftermath of the incident. The DMW’s efforts aim to ensure that the affected individuals receive the support they need as they navigate through the aftermath of the tragedy.
