A crew member tragically lost their life after going overboard from the Regal Princess cruise ship near Cancún on Monday, as confirmed by Princess Cruises. In a statement issued to Global News, the cruise line expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. They also mentioned that grief support services are being provided to affected guests and crew members. The cruise line acknowledged the assistance of local maritime authorities and the Carnival Jubilee in the search and rescue efforts.

Following the incident, the Regal Princess resumed its voyage, with a scheduled arrival in Belize on July 14. The itinerary was adjusted to include Cozumel, with a visit planned for July 16. The ship is currently on a seven-day Caribbean cruise, expected to return to Fort Lauderdale on July 18.

The cruise line had previously reported that the crew member was unaccounted for, prompting an extensive search operation that lasted over eight hours. A passenger noted that details regarding the individual’s identity remain undisclosed, and the circumstances surrounding the crew member going overboard are still unclear.

This incident follows a recent outbreak of norovirus on another Princess cruise ship, the Ruby Princess, where over 120 passengers and crew fell ill. The CDC reported that heightened cleaning and disinfection protocols were implemented in response to that outbreak, highlighting the challenges cruise lines face in maintaining health and safety standards.
