Shell and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore took immediate action to address an oil spill caused by a leak from a land-based pipeline. The MPA was notified of the spill between Bukom and Bukom Kecil islands around 1 p.m. local time, following the incident at 5:30 a.m. Fortunately, the leak was contained at its source, and there were no reported impacts on navigation safety.
A Shell spokesperson confirmed the leak at the Shell Energy and Chemicals Park and stated that emergency response specialists were dispatched to handle the situation. In response to the spill, Shell deployed containment booms and vessels equipped with dispersants to clean up the oil in the affected area. The MPA also contributed to the cleanup efforts by dispatching seven vessels, along with drones and satellites, to locate and address the spill promptly.
The collaborative efforts between Shell and the MPA demonstrate a swift and effective response to the oil spill incident. By deploying containment measures and cleanup resources, both parties are working to mitigate the environmental impact and ensure the safety of the surrounding marine ecosystem. The coordinated response reflects a commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible management of maritime incidents.
