WISTA Norway has awarded Trygve Nøkleby, Managing Director of the Bergen Shipowners Association, with the prestigious 20th annual WISTA Norway Leadership Award. The accolade was presented during the Bergen International Shipping Conference on June 10. Nøkleby is only the second male recipient of this award, which honors individuals who exemplify exceptional leadership and contribute significantly to the maritime sector.
Under Nøkleby’s guidance, the Bergen Shipowners Association has prioritized diversity and inclusion, establishing initiatives that enhance recruitment, mentoring, and participation in maritime careers. His proactive approach includes supporting the WISTA #40by30 pledge and mentoring through the Maritime Meet-Up program, rallying industry leaders to foster a more inclusive maritime environment. His advocacy, both publicly and privately, has catalyzed meaningful change in the industry.
WISTA Norway also recognized other nominees for their dedication to promoting the organization’s values and empowering female leaders within the maritime field. Jaquelyn Burton, President of WISTA Norway, praised the nominees for their impactful contributions. This year’s award features a print by artist Björg Thorhallsdóttir, titled “Trygg venn” (“safe friend”), symbolizing guidance and safety in challenging times. Each awardee becomes a lifetime honorary member of WISTA Norway, joining a distinguished group of past recipients.
