On Tuesday, Vijay Kumar, IAS, Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, visited New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) to assess its operations and future development initiatives. He was welcomed by NMPA Chairman Sushil Kumar Singh and Deputy Chairperson S Shanthi, with a ceremonial guard of honor from the Central Industrial Security Force unit.
During his visit, Kumar inspected various marine operations and cargo handling facilities to gain insights into the port’s functionality. He engaged in discussions with NMPA officials and other stakeholders, focusing on enhancing operational efficiency, improving the ease of doing business, and fostering collaboration for sustainable growth.
Kumar inaugurated several projects aimed at modernizing the port, including a truck parking facility and road networks at a total investment of Rs 105 crore. He also laid the foundation for significant new initiatives to boost cargo handling and enhance the port’s infrastructure.
In line with employee welfare, NMPA introduced initiatives like a pharmacy service for affordable healthcare and provided special accessibility accommodations for an employee with disabilities, underscoring its commitment to inclusivity and operational excellence.
