The body of British tech magnate Mike Lynch was recovered from the wreck of his family yacht, which sank off the coast of Sicily during a storm. His 18-year-old daughter, Hannah, remains missing, along with four others who were on board when the boat went down. The yacht, named Bayesian, was carrying 22 passengers and crew and sank quickly after being hit by bad weather while anchored near Palermo.
Lynch, a prominent tech entrepreneur, had invited friends to celebrate his recent acquittal in a U.S. fraud trial on the yacht. His body was brought ashore, while the bodies of the others who did not survive were also recovered. A rescue operation is ongoing to find the remaining missing persons, with divers facing challenges due to the depth and narrow spaces inside the sunken yacht.
A judicial investigation has been opened into the disaster, with experts questioning why a high-end yacht like the Bayesian was unable to withstand the storm. The CEO of the yacht’s owner company blamed the crew for not following safety procedures. The captain and surviving crew members have not made any public statements about the incident. Once all bodies are recovered, experts will determine if the yacht can be salvaged.
