Fincantieri and Oceania Cruises, part of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd., recently celebrated the launch of the Oceania Sonata™, a new luxury cruise ship currently being constructed at the Marghera shipyard. The vessel is set to be delivered in 2027 and aims to provide an exceptional travel experience with its spacious public areas and high comfort standards. The ceremony was attended by key figures, including Paolo Novarino, Senior Director at Oceania Cruises, and Marco Lunardi, Senior Vice President of the Marghera shipyard.
With a gross tonnage of around 86,000 tons, Oceania Sonata™ will accommodate 1,390 passengers and marks the inaugural ship of the line’s Sonata class. This new generation builds upon the legacy of the Allura Class, which is celebrated for its elegance and innovative construction quality. Previous ships in this line, including Oceania Vista® and Oceania Allura™, were successfully delivered by Fincantieri in 2023 and 2025, respectively.
The Sonata Class program also includes plans for four additional sister ships, with Oceania Arietta™ expected to join the fleet in 2029, followed by three more vessels in 2032, 2035, and 2037. This initiative further solidifies the longstanding partnership between Fincantieri and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. The Marghera shipyard is a strategic hub for large cruise ship construction and has a rich history, having built 36 cruise ships since 1991 while employing around 6,000 workers daily. Through investments in innovation and automation, the shipyard continues to play a vital role in the global cruise shipbuilding industry.
