Fincantieri and Viking have solidified their long-standing partnership by signing contracts for two new cruise ships, bringing their total collaboration to 28 vessels. The contracts stem from options exercised by Viking in April 2025, with construction set to take place at Fincantieri’s Ancona shipyard in Italy. Both ships are scheduled for delivery in 2032, and the agreement is classified as “large,” pending financing and other conditions.
Each new vessel will cater to the small cruise ship market, boasting a size of approximately 54,300 gross tons and the capacity to accommodate 998 passengers across 499 cabins. These ships will build upon the design features of previous Viking vessels while integrating the latest advancements in environmental standards, navigation, and safety.
This contract follows Viking’s recent orders for two expedition cruise ships, furthering the cruise operator’s fleet expansion strategy. Fincantieri CEO Pierroberto Folgiero emphasized that this agreement marks a significant milestone in their collaboration and ensures long-term production continuity for the Ancona yard, supporting skilled employment in the region.
The new contracts also extend Viking’s newbuild pipeline into the next decade, as the operator continues to grow its ocean and expedition fleets in partnership with Fincantieri.
