GANDHINAGAR: Gujarat Maritime University (GMU) has formalized a partnership with the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) – IRCLASS Academy by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This collaboration signifies a crucial step in enhancing the relationship between academia and the maritime industry. The MoU was executed by key figures, including Prof. Dr. Sanjeevi Shanthakumar, Provost of GMU; Mr. Praveen M., Managing Director of the Indian Register of Shipping; and Mr. Amit Bhatnagar, Head of IRCLASS Academy.
The primary objective of the MoU is to promote collaborative efforts in academic and professional spheres through joint programs and knowledge exchanges. By leveraging GMU’s expertise in maritime education, law, policy, and management alongside the industry insights from IRS–IRCLASS Academy, the partnership aims to create significant opportunities for research, professional development, and enhanced engagement between academia and maritime professionals. This initiative is expected to contribute to the cultivation of skilled maritime professionals ready to meet industry demands.
The signing ceremony, attended by representatives from both institutions, highlighted their mutual commitment to fostering a long-lasting and effective partnership. Through such strategic alliances, Gujarat Maritime University is poised to deepen its ties with prominent maritime institutions and industry players, thereby advancing maritime education, research, and professional capacity in India.
