In May 2026, DP World Cochin’s International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT) achieved a record throughput of 77,637 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), solidifying its position as a vital trade gateway. This milestone showcases the terminal’s ability to manage increasing cargo volumes amid changing market conditions.
Year-to-date figures indicate a 4% growth in terminal volumes compared to last year, despite ongoing geopolitical issues. Improved transshipment volumes, particularly cargo diverted from other ports, were key drivers behind this record performance, including a notable 28,000 TEUs in May.
CEO Dipin Kayyath remarked that this achievement reflects the commitment of the team and customer trust in DP World Cochin. The terminal effectively handled 17 additional vessel calls during the month, demonstrating its capacity to manage heightened demand without disruption.
To accommodate rising trade volumes, DP World Cochin has invested in enhancing its infrastructure, upgrading power capacity and fully electrifying yard equipment to lower emissions. Notably, the facility also houses Kerala’s first Free Trade Warehousing Zone (FTWZ), further boosting regional trade by streamlining cargo consolidation and storage.
