Floating Hotels Near Belapur Jetty Set to Boost Navi Mumbai Tourism

Imagine enjoying a meal on a floating hotel with stunning views of the Atal Setu, India’s longest sea bridge, and the serene waters of Panvel Creek. The Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) is initiating the development of three floating hospitality facilities, known as floatels, near the Belapur jetty in Navi Mumbai. This initiative aims to enhance maritime tourism and waterfront leisure activities in the region.

The MMB has called for private operators to develop and manage these floatels at designated locations close to the newly established tourism jetty in Sector 15, Belapur. The proposed floating facilities could provide a range of services, including dining, accommodation, and entertainment, pending necessary approvals and adherence to maritime safety regulations. Guests would be transported to and from the floatels via tender boats, with the Belapur jetty serving as the main point for boarding and logistics.

A floatel is essentially a floating hotel that offers a unique experience on the water, distinct from traditional land-based hotels. The MMB’s initiative is focused on promoting waterfront hospitality and recreational opportunities while encouraging private investment in tourism-related maritime infrastructure. Operators selected through the tender process will be responsible for the entire development cycle, from financing to compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Despite past challenges with floating establishments in Mumbai, including closures and accidents, the city continues to explore this innovative hospitality model. New ventures, such as floating restaurants near key tourist attractions, are being launched, indicating a persistent interest in enhancing the maritime tourism landscape in the region.
