He emphasized that both nations will soon initiate a framework for maritime security to uphold freedom of navigation, highlighting the importance of connectivity in their bilateral relations.
Bartoli also discussed the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) and noted that an MoU on port collaboration has been signed. The aim is to create digital networks and expedite transport corridors, enhancing economic ties between the two countries. He underscored the potential for industrial collaboration, stating that India’s rapid economic growth aligns well with Italy’s manufacturing capabilities.
Sibi George, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, remarked on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Italy, which has led to significant initiatives to strengthen cultural, educational, and defense ties. Notably, both leaders agreed to designate 2027 as the Year of Culture between India and Italy to promote tourism and cultural relations.
Additionally, an MoU was signed for Italy’s cooperation in developing the National Maritime Heritage Complex in Gujarat, and efforts are underway to establish a twinning program between UNESCO World Heritage Sites in both nations.
