Seven Filipino seafarers from the M/T Burgan, a Kuwait-flagged crude oil tanker, returned to the Philippines on September 7 after being involved in an attack while navigating the Strait of Hormuz. They arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in Pasay City on Emirates Flight EK2520.
Upon their return, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) facilitated their arrival processing, offering essential airport services, welfare assistance, and special financial support. Collaborating with their licensed manning agency, arrangements were also made for medical check-ups, temporary accommodation, and travel logistics to reunite them with their families.
OWWA’s support extends beyond their immediate return, as the agency will continue to assist the seafarers through its Regional Welfare Offices. This ongoing support aims to connect them with necessary welfare and reintegration services tailored to their individual needs and qualifications.
The commitment of OWWA to Filipino migrant workers is evident, as it provides crucial assistance during crises and helps them transition back to their home lives. The agency’s efforts underscore its dedication to the well-being of seafarers and their families.
