India Launches ₹2,000 Crore Projects to Boost JN Port Capacity and Efficiency

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated various projects worth almost Rs 2,000 crores to increase the capacity of the JNP port, including a solar-powered boat, tugboats, and firefighting boats. The JNPA is India’s largest port and is set to reach a capacity of 10 million TEU by 2027, with a recent container volume peak of 7.05 million TEUs in 2024. The developments aim to enhance efficiency and safety at the port, with plans to expand capacity further through projects like the Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal and Nhava Sheva Freeport Terminal.

Notable MoUs were signed for the Vadhavan port project, including agreements with Reliance Industries Limited and Dr. Balasaheb Kokan Krishi Vidyapeeth Dapoli for various developments. A significant partnership between VPPL and HUDCO aims to drive infrastructure growth with a commitment of up to Rs 25,000 crore for new ports and PPP projects. These collaborations align with the government’s vision of transforming India’s maritime sector and boosting economic growth.
