The Kuwait-flagged oil tanker M/T Al Dasma, carrying 21 Indian crew members, was hit by an unidentified projectile while navigating the Strait of Hormuz. Fortunately, all crew members are reported safe, as confirmed by the Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. The incident took place on October 21, and authorities are actively monitoring the situation.
The Minister communicated via social media, stating that the tanker was struck while transiting the strait, but assured that the crew, including the Indian nationals, are unharmed. The ship management is in close contact with officials to ensure the safety and well-being of the seafarers. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported the strike occurred approximately 11 nautical miles west of Bukha, Oman.
Reports indicate that the incident caused a fire on board the vessel, which has since been extinguished. The tanker remained stationary following the attack, and all crew members have been accounted for. This event is part of a troubling pattern of incidents affecting commercial shipping in the Gulf region, as another tanker was struck just days earlier, with no casualties reported. India has consistently condemned such attacks, emphasizing the importance of safe maritime navigation and commerce.
