Team Sea Sakthi, hailing from Kumaraguru College of Technology in Coimbatore, is the sole Indian representative at the 13th Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, set to take place from July 8 to 11 in Monaco. This student-led team is among 54 teams from 21 countries, showcasing India’s advancements in sustainable maritime technology in one of the premier global competitions focused on clean marine propulsion.
This year, Team Sea Sakthi will unveil an upgraded electric catamaran featuring a fully indigenous electric propulsion system developed by the students themselves. The vessel is designed with a lightweight bio-based fiber structure and an advanced counter-rotating propulsion system utilizing toroidal propellers, enhancing energy efficiency and performance while minimizing environmental impact.
The Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, hosted by the Yacht Club de Monaco, serves as a vital platform for engineering students, researchers, and industry leaders to collaborate on sustainable maritime solutions. It allows participants to test their innovations in real-world conditions, fostering hands-on experience essential for the energy transition in yachting.
Founded in 2022, Team Sea Sakthi aims to elevate India’s profile in international sustainable technology arenas. Their participation is bolstered by SBM Offshore’s Corporate Mentoring Programme, providing technical and logistical support from experts in both Monaco and India. Beyond the competition, the event will also feature technology conferences and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation Sustainable Yachting Technology Award, celebrating advancements in clean marine mobility.
