Mumbai’s SHM Global, a leader in maritime solutions, has been recognized for its innovative development of indigenous lifeboats, aligning with the Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. In a ceremony at the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) Headquarters in Powai, MD Praveen K. Mishra applauded SHM’s success in creating the KISS 700 and PN95FA lifeboats, which meet stringent international safety standards.

These lifeboats, designed and manufactured in India in collaboration with Palfinger Marine, mark a significant step toward enhancing self-reliance in the maritime sector. Mishra encouraged other Indian manufacturers to pursue IRS type approvals to reduce reliance on imports, thus strengthening India’s maritime capabilities.

The IRS emphasized the complexity of these lifeboats’ development, noting that such designs had never been constructed in India before. Senior Principal Surveyor T. Ghosh described the project as a transformative venture for Indian lifeboat design, showcasing SHM’s engineering excellence and commitment to producing high-quality maritime solutions.

SHM Global CEO Mohammed Hajee affirmed that the recognition reflects their dedication to developing critical marine safety systems. With several product approvals already in place, SHM Global is poised to further enhance India’s maritime manufacturing ecosystem, supporting the nation’s goals of innovation and self-sufficiency.
