Vietnamese Maritime Team Rescues Critically Ill Foreign Sailor at Sea

The Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center initiated an emergency operation on Sunday for an Indian sailor who became critically ill aboard the Marshall Islands-flagged cargo ship RAMHAN. The sailor, Panjanathan Elanchezhiyan, a third engineer born in 1993, exhibited severe symptoms, including fever, chills, dizziness, high blood pressure, and impaired behavior. Recognizing the urgency, the ship’s captain promptly requested medical assistance.

In response to the distress call, the center activated its emergency protocols and provided medical consultations to the vessel for initial first aid. However, as the sailor’s condition deteriorated, the need for specialized medical care onshore became urgent. Following directives from the administration, the center dispatched the search and rescue vessel SAR 273 from Khanh Hoa Province at 8:48 am.
