On April 17, NYK Shipmanagement Pte. Ltd. (NYKSM), part of the NYK Group, inaugurated its new training center in Navi Mumbai, India. This facility aims to improve training efficiency for seafarers, particularly as India is a leading contributor of maritime personnel, many of whom serve on NYK-operated vessels. The establishment of this center allows training programs that were previously held in Singapore to now be conducted locally, alleviating the travel burden on trainees.
The training center offers a diverse array of programs designed to bolster the skills of seafarers. These include simulator-based training for safe vessel operations and courses focused on handling machinery failures and other emergency situations onboard. This initiative is expected to enhance the overall effectiveness of training while supporting the professional development of seafarers.
The opening ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Shri Deependra Singh Bisen from the Indian Directorate General of Shipping, Katsuhiko Haruna, Managing Executive Officer of NYK, and Shingo Mizutani, CEO of NYKSM, among other officials. Their presence underscored the importance of this new facility in fostering maritime safety and competency.
The NYK Group is committed to advancing seafarer training globally, aiming to support professional growth and reinforce safe navigation practices, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of the shipping industry.
