DP World Cochin’s International Container Transhipment Terminal (ICTT) has commenced operations with the new MGR IFR Service, establishing a direct shipping route between India and significant ports in the UAE, Oman, and Yemen. This bi-weekly service connects Cochin in Kerala and Nhava Sheva in Maharashtra with Fujairah, Sohar, and Aden, facilitating easier access for Southern Indian importers and exporters to Middle Eastern markets.
The operation uses two vessels, M.V. MARSA VIRGO and M.V. MARSA ZENITH, each capable of carrying over 500 TEUs per voyage. The inaugural call by M.V. MARSA VIRGO at DP World Cochin saw the handling of more than 1,000 TEUs. The service follows the route of Cochin–Nhava Sheva–Fujairah–Sohar–Aden–Cochin, enhancing connections between Indian ports and major Middle Eastern trading hubs.
In August 2026, DP World Cochin reported a record throughput of 97,952 TEUs, a notable 51% increase compared to the previous year. COO Ravinder Johal emphasized that this new service expands the network, providing reliable connections and strengthening supply chains for EXIM businesses. Cochin’s strategic location further supports coastal trade and cargo transit across India.
