Iran Aims to Boost Influence in International Maritime Organization

TEHRAN – The head of Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) highlighted the importance of enhancing Iran’s presence in the International Maritime Organization (IMO). He stated that with a maritime border of 5,800 kilometers and a rich history in seafaring, Iran should assert itself more prominently in international maritime discussions than ever before.

In a recent report by IRNA, Mohammad Shakibi-Nasab emphasized the need for revising maritime and port operations as a key strategy during this new management period. He noted that integrating modern technologies is essential to update and standardize Iran’s maritime activities effectively.

The Deputy Minister of Transport and Urban Development commended the bravery of Iranian seafarers during challenging wartime conditions, which ensured the country’s food security remained intact. He affirmed that the PMO, in collaboration with relevant agencies, will strive to meet the essential needs and supply basic goods for the population.

Referencing the IMO’s motto of “Safe, secure and clean seas,” he reiterated that the PMO has consistently been a leader in implementing maritime conventions, underlining its long-standing commitment to international maritime standards.
