The UAE Ministry of Defence reported that two of its national tankers, Mombasa and Al Bahiyah, came under attack from Iranian cruise missiles while navigating the southern shipping lane of the Strait of Hormuz, located within Omani territorial waters.
The incident resulted in the tragic death of one Indian crew member aboard the Mombasa tanker. Additionally, eight other crew members sustained injuries during the missile strike, with four of those injuries classified as serious.
This attack underscores the ongoing tensions in the region, particularly concerning maritime security in one of the world’s most crucial shipping lanes. The UAE government has condemned the assault and is likely to pursue diplomatic channels to address the situation.
The implications of such actions could further escalate tensions between the involved nations, highlighting the need for increased vigilance and cooperation in ensuring the safety of maritime operations in the area.
