The Korean Register (KR) has integrated artificial intelligence into its compliance software, enhancing its KR-Con application for maritime stakeholders. This AI-driven tool allows users to efficiently search through a comprehensive digital database of maritime conventions and classification requirements, improving the accuracy and speed of regulatory information retrieval.
The latest update, KR-Con version 24, introduces features that enable users to identify applicable conventions based on entry-into-force dates and access updated documents. This version incorporates amendments from significant International Maritime Organization (IMO) meetings held in 2025, including the 34th IMO Assembly and sessions of the Maritime Safety and Marine Environment Protection Committees. Additionally, updates to key international conventions such as SOLAS and MARPOL will be continuously integrated as they are adopted.
Hoijun Kim, the general manager of convention and legislation services at KR, emphasized that this upgrade significantly enhances accessibility to convention information and search efficiency. Looking ahead, KR plans to implement advanced AI technologies that will not only retrieve external data but also generate responses and facilitate autonomous decision-making, further enhancing the capabilities of KR-Con. These developments promise to revolutionize how maritime stakeholders interact with regulatory information.
