The Saudi defense ministry has announced that the Multinational Maritime Defence Coalition, comprising representatives from 41 nations, is on the verge of becoming operational. This coalition aims to secure key maritime routes, including the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Bab al Mandab Strait, ensuring they remain open for shipping traffic.
Recently, the coalition convened for its fourth planning meeting in Jeddah, marking a significant transition from its initial formation phase to operational readiness. The ministry noted that the coalition has achieved Initial Operational Capability, a crucial step in its development.
The meeting saw participation from officials representing 41 countries, alongside European Union representatives, highlighting the coalition’s broad international support. Formed in July, this 14-nation military alliance is dedicated to safeguarding the vital waterways that surround the Arabian Peninsula.
Currently, the coalition is focused on integrating its capabilities and preparing for active operations in the maritime area. The defense ministry emphasized the importance of this coalition in maintaining the security and accessibility of these critical maritime routes for international shipping.
