Twelve Seafarers Injured in Attack on LR2 Tanker in Hormuz

An LR2 tanker was struck by a projectile while navigating the Strait of Hormuz, resulting in injuries to 12 crew members and necessitating a medical evacuation. The vessel, identified as the On Peace, is a 115,000 dwt tanker built in 2021, and the incident reportedly occurred during an outbound transit near the Musandam Peninsula. While India and Oman reported the attack took place on Tuesday, it has been noted as the 12th potential Iranian assault in a week, marking a significant impact on the crew’s safety.

The Indian government’s internal affairs ministry confirmed that 11 of the injured seafarers were Indian nationals and expressed appreciation for the swift response from Omani authorities, who facilitated the medevac to Khasab for medical treatment. The Omani defense ministry confirmed that its air force conducted an emergency evacuation, utilizing the tanker’s spacious deck for a direct helicopter landing, which allowed medical personnel to assist the injured crew members without the need for hoisting. At least two crew members were transported on stretchers upon arrival at the hospital.
