Two vessels flying Panamanian and Barbadian flags were damaged in an attack while navigating Ukraine’s Black Sea corridor, according to the Ukrainian Ports Authority. One ship, carrying metal, was en route to Odesa, a key port for Ukrainian exports, while the other, loaded with grain, had just departed.
The Odesa region’s governor, Oleh Kiper, reported on Telegram that Russian drones conducted the attacks. The Russian defense ministry has yet to respond to inquiries regarding the incident. The Ports Authority noted that a fire broke out on one vessel but was quickly extinguished by the crew, and thankfully, there were no injuries, allowing both ships to continue their journeys.
Kiper condemned the ongoing assaults, stating that “the enemy is continuing to terrorize peaceful Odesa region” and attempting to disrupt the Ukrainian maritime corridor. He also mentioned that multiple waves of Russian drones targeted civilian areas and energy infrastructure in southern Odesa.
