Sharjah Targets Indian Investment for Khorfakkan Port Expansion

Sharjah Targets $3 Billion in Indian Investment

Sharjah aims to attract $3 billion in investment from Indian companies during 2026 and 2027, driven by increased interest in Khorfakkan Port amid shipping disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. The emirate anticipates that Indian manufacturers and logistics firms will expand their operations in Sharjah, utilizing the UAE as a gateway to broader Gulf markets like Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Mohamed Juma Al Musharrkh, CEO of Invest in Sharjah, highlighted that the emirate is targeting $1.5 billion in Indian investments this year and another $1.5 billion in 2027, marking a 15% rise from the previous year.

Khorfakkan Port, strategically located outside the Strait of Hormuz, is attracting companies looking to establish or grow their operations in the UAE. Al Musharrkh emphasized that the port’s position enhances trade between India and the UAE, making it a critical hub for companies wanting to access regional markets. Demand for industrial land near the port is rising, with many businesses from Dubai and Abu Dhabi seeking to expand their operations closer to Khorfakkan.

Furthermore, Khorfakkan Port is undergoing a phased expansion to boost its container-handling capacity from 3.5 million to 5 million TEUs annually, with a longer-term goal of surpassing 10 million TEUs. This development supports Sharjah’s vision of positioning Khorfakkan as a major regional logistics and trade gateway.
