A newly launched industry plan in Singapore aims to support the growth of the marine and offshore energy sector sustainably. By 2030, the plan intends to create and redesign 1,000 local job roles and achieve a 5% average annual productivity growth. Additionally, the industry aims to secure new orders that will result in at least 250 kiloton in annual carbon emission avoidance and reductions, equivalent to removing 39,000 cars from the road.
The plan, launched by the Association of Singapore Marine & Offshore Energy Industries (ASMI) with support from Enterprise Singapore, seeks to address challenges faced by the industry, including resource constraints, talent development, and growing regional competition. It also aims to establish Singapore as the Asia-Pacific hub for maritime sustainability and advance maritime decarbonization through new builds and decarbonization solutions.
To achieve its goals, the industry plan emphasizes upskilling and reskilling to develop a future-ready workforce capable of taking on new roles in offshore renewables, sustainability, digitalization, and advanced manufacturing. Companies are encouraged to diversify their business portfolios by capitalizing on green opportunities in offshore renewables and maritime decarbonization. By leveraging partnerships and international events, Singapore companies can access global offshore wind development opportunities and strengthen their presence in key markets like Japan, South Korea, and Europe.
