Singapore has introduced an updated Marine & Offshore Energy Industry Digital Plan (M&OE IDP) aimed at assisting over 1,000 companies in adopting AI and digital technologies to enhance productivity, safety, and global competitiveness. Launched by Enterprise Singapore and the Infocomm Media Development Authority, the initiative was announced by Dr. Tan See Leng at the RECHARGE Wind Power Summit 2026 Asia-Pacific. The updated plan builds on the strong digital adoption seen since the original plan’s introduction in 2021, with over 90% of companies expected to implement at least one digital solution by 2025.
Despite notable progress, the sector still grapples with challenges such as labor shortages, increasing operational costs, and heightened global competition. The refreshed plan focuses on leveraging AI and digital solutions to improve operational efficiency and competitiveness. Collaborating with industry stakeholders, the plan aligns with Singapore’s broader Marine & Offshore Energy Industry Plan.
The updated IDP categorizes digital solutions into five key areas: customer service, design and engineering, procurement, production, and corporate functions. New innovations include AI-driven chatbots for customer engagement, generative AI tools for marketing, and advanced manufacturing technologies. Additionally, it emphasizes AI’s role in predictive equipment monitoring and maintenance planning.
A successful example of AI implementation is Mencast Holdings, which adopted an AI-driven additive manufacturing system for 3D-printing propellers, achieving significant improvements in vessel speed and fuel efficiency. The plan also incorporates a Cybersecurity and Data Protection Roadmap to bolster companies’ cyber resilience as digital operations expand.
