Children in Roquetas de Mar are diving into ocean exploration through the “A Sea of Fun” program at the Aula del Mar. This educational initiative promotes learning, creativity, and environmental awareness through engaging nautical activities tailored for kids and their families.
Recently, the program kicked off a new trimester with the “Knotted with the Sea” workshop, where children learned to tie various nautical knots. The session created an energetic atmosphere filled with excitement and curiosity, as participants engaged with ropes and maritime stories, immersing themselves in a sea-themed environment.
Led by marine science graduate Macarena Molina and Luis Rodriguez, president of the Pescartes Association of Cabo de Gata, the workshop introduced children to the practical applications of nautical knots in marine life and traditional fishing. Children practiced tying knots using printed guides, allowing them to take home their creations as keepsakes.
The workshop not only fostered creativity and problem-solving skills among the children but also emphasized the importance of respecting the sea and its ecosystems. Upcoming events include a storytelling session on January 17th, featuring Paula Mandarina narrating a tale about a fisherman from Roquetas de Mar. Registration is free but limited, encouraging families to sign up early.
