ClassNK has introduced ‘Survey Compass’, an AI assistant designed to aid shipowners and management companies with classification survey operations. This tool allows users to pose questions in natural language, retrieving relevant information and sources to streamline survey preparations and reduce workloads. The launch of Survey Compass is a significant step towards ClassNK’s vision of a comprehensive digital service platform for operational ships.
Available through the ClassNK Customer Hub, Survey Compass directly searches classification survey documents, summarizing findings and linking to original sources. This retrieval-based approach enhances accuracy and reliability, minimizing the risk of misinformation. Users can confidently rely on the assistant, as it provides direct access to the documents informing its responses.
Initially, Survey Compass will cover key regulatory documents, including Part B of the Rules for the Survey and Construction of Steel Ships and related technical information. ClassNK plans to enhance the service by expanding its document range based on user feedback, incorporating international conventions and flag State requirements, and integrating vessel-specific data for improved context.
As ClassNK continues to develop Survey Compass, it aims to bolster the digitalization and operational efficiency of the maritime industry, ensuring that shipowners and management companies have the tools needed for effective decision-making.
