The water treatment specialist’s organic U-UV team is collaborating with French shipbuilders Chantiers de l’Atlantique to install its Bio-Sea ballast water treatment system on the inaugural luxury sailing yacht for Accor. The Biosea B01-0135 unit successfully underwent factory acceptance testing and was installed on the first Orient Express sailing yacht at the St. Nazaire Shipyard, with a scheduled launch on June 16, 2025. The UV-based system can treat water flow rates up to 135 m³/h, and a sister ship is set to be delivered in 2027 with a similar system.

At 220 meters and 26,200 GT, the Orient Express will be the largest contemporary sailing yacht, designed to incorporate innovative in-house systems, including three towering masts and foldable sails. Maxime Dedeurwaerder, sales director at Bio-UV, highlighted the order’s significance, emphasizing its commitment to decarbonization and sustainability.

The Bio-Sea B series offers treatment capacities from 100 to 500 m³/h, adjusting UV doses based on water quality without impacting marine environments. Additionally, the French water treatment guideline guarantees durability and reliability for ship operators, supported by maintenance contracts managed by certified technicians.
