Egypt’s Foreign Affairs Ministry has successfully facilitated the exit of 15 Egyptian seafarers who were stranded in Ukraine, enabling their safe passage to neighboring Moldova. This initiative aims to ensure their swift return to Egypt, as highlighted by ministry spokesperson Nader Zaki in a statement released on social media.
Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty directed the ministry’s Consular Affairs Sector and the Egyptian embassies in Ukraine and Romania—also responsible for Moldova—to accelerate the return process for the seafarers. Their vessels had been caught in military operations in the Black Sea, prompting urgent action to assist them.
The embassies played a crucial role in obtaining transit visas for the seafarers, coordinating with their respective companies to secure necessary identification documents and arrange return tickets. This collaborative effort was essential in facilitating their exit from Ukraine and entry into Moldova.
Currently, the 15 seafarers have successfully crossed into Moldova and are now awaiting the earliest available flight back to Egypt. The Foreign Ministry’s actions reflect its commitment to supporting and protecting Egyptian citizens abroad during challenging circumstances.
