A 58-year-old Indian captain, Shivdev, has gone missing after reportedly slipping into the Mediterranean Sea while working off the coast of Egypt. His family is seeking assistance from government authorities to locate him. Shivdev, a retired Indian Navy officer, had been with the merchant navy for 22 years, and the incident occurred on February 15 while he was the captain of a Vessel, Onyx, anchored in Port Said.
According to his wife, Shivdev was descending from the ship to board a boat that would take him to a hotel when he lost his footing. An official from his employer, Xfinity Maritime Services, informed the family that he drifted away due to strong sea currents. Although a search operation was initiated, efforts have ceased without any sign of Shivdev.
The family, residing in Panvel, Maharashtra, plans for their two sons to fly to Egypt for further information regarding their father’s disappearance. The family has reached out to the Ministry of External Affairs and Xfinity Maritime Services but has yet to receive a response.
