The Indian-flagged bulk carrier APJ Priti 2, which was transporting 65,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser, has successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz via the Iranian route. This comes amid rising regional tensions, with the vessel previously on a list for evacuation due to security concerns.

The successful transit is a positive sign for India’s cargo movement through this strategically critical sea route. Although shipping activity is gradually picking up, the security situation remains delicate. Authorities have reported that numerous Indian vessels are still stationed in the Persian Gulf, with 15 ships identified for evacuation, including those carrying energy and fertiliser.

While the overall maritime scenario shows signs of improvement, with an increasing number of vessels passing through the strait, maritime agencies continue to monitor the situation closely due to past attacks on merchant ships.

For India, the safe passage of APJ Priti 2 is particularly crucial, as fertiliser imports play a vital role in agricultural supply chains. This smooth transit alleviates logistical pressures and supports the continuous flow of essential cargo into the country.
