Forty-eight hours after the disappearance of 22-year-old Indrajith Santhosh from Kerala, another individual from the state has gone missing following a tragic boat capsizing near Mozambique’s Beira Port. Sreerag Radhakrishnan, 35, from Naduvilakara village in Kollam district, is now among five Indian nationals unaccounted for after the incident involving a launch boat operated by Scorpio Maritime Management India Pvt Ltd.
The tragedy occurred due to rough weather early Thursday, resulting in the loss of three Indian lives. Sreerag, an electro-technical officer with nearly a decade of experience, was part of a 21-member crew, including 14 Indians, tasked with inspecting the oil tanker ‘MT Sea Quest.’ His family, including his wife Jeethu and their two young children, is left in distress as they await updates.
The Indian Embassy and the maritime company are providing information to Sreerag’s family, but the challenging sea conditions complicate search efforts for the sunken vessel. This incident follows the earlier disappearance of Indrajith, a hull inspector who had traveled to Mozambique with his father.
While Indrajith’s colleague Akash managed to swim to safety after the capsizing, the families of both men face an agonizing wait. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs and the High Commission in Mozambique are working with local agencies to aid in the rescue operations, as the wreckage of the launch boat has been located at a significant underwater depth.
