President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has directed relevant agencies to assist the families of two Filipino seafarers who tragically lost their lives when a Saudi Arabian oil tanker was struck by unidentified projectiles near the Strait of Hormuz. During a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro conveyed the condolences of the Marcos administration to the bereaved families from Cabuyao, Laguna, and Daanbantayan, Cebu.
Castro emphasized that the President has promptly ordered support for the families of the deceased seafarers, ensuring they receive all necessary assistance, including benefits, compensation, and insurance payouts. She assured that the government is committed to supporting the families left behind by the two Filipinos.
Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac reported that 16 Filipino seafarers were aboard the tanker, named Sidr, during the incident. Fortunately, 14 of them survived as the vessel docked in Oman. Initial information from the Department of Migrant Workers indicated that the tanker was traveling from the east coast of the United Arab Emirates toward the Strait of Hormuz when it was attacked off the coast of Oman.
