The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has initiated a search and rescue mission following reports of a crew member falling overboard in Melaka waters. The crew member, identified as 25-year-old Vishnu Babu from India, was reported missing from the cargo ship MT Resolute. State MMEA director Maritime Captain Mohd Khairi Abd Aziz confirmed that the operation was launched after receiving an alert from the Maritime Rescue Sub Centre in Johor Baru on Thursday (July 18).
The search operation, covering an area of 43.5 square kilometres, is focused on the spot where the crew member went missing, located 11.8 nautical miles from Klebang shores in Melaka. The ship was en route to Singapore when the incident occurred, prompting the involvement of marine police in the search efforts. Mohd Khairi emphasized the urgency of the situation and the collaborative efforts being made to locate the missing crew member.
With the safety and well-being of the crew member at the forefront, the MMEA and marine police are working diligently to cover the designated search area and ensure a comprehensive effort in locating Vishnu Babu. The incident serves as a reminder of the risks and challenges faced by maritime personnel, highlighting the importance of swift and coordinated response in such emergencies.
