Oceanwide Expeditions announced that all remaining crew members of the Hondius who had been in quarantine completed their isolation on June 18, 2026, and are now returning to their home countries. This includes crew members who disembarked in Rotterdam on May 18, as well as those who arrived in the Netherlands after previously disembarking in Tenerife on May 11. The company confirmed that no health complaints or further cases of hantavirus were reported among these individuals, with tests conducted earlier in the week returning negative results.
Remi Bouysset, CEO of Oceanwide Expeditions, expressed gratitude to the crew for their exceptional efforts during challenging circumstances. He acknowledged their professionalism and coordination while under significant media scrutiny, emphasizing their commitment to the well-being of guests and fellow team members. Under the leadership of Captain Jan Dobrogowski, the crew managed to maintain composure when it mattered most.
Following their disembarkation, the quarantined crew members were isolated without family support. Oceanwide Expeditions highlighted the emotional and logistical burdens they faced during this period and reiterated its commitment to support all affected individuals. The Dutch Public Health Authorities provided daily monitoring and assistance throughout the quarantine process.
The company also extended thanks to the Dutch Public Health Authorities, the Rotterdam Port Authority, and the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment for their cooperation in ensuring the safe return of the vessel and crew. After thorough cleaning and disinfection by EWS Group, the Hondius was cleared to return to service on May 30 and is now operating in the Arctic with a completely new crew.
