The Indian LNG carrier Disha has successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz, marking a significant milestone as the first LNG vessel bound for India to leave this high-risk area in over three months. This Malta-flagged tanker, managed by a consortium led by the Shipping Corporation of India and chartered by Petronet LNG, is transporting approximately 62,370 metric tonnes of LNG and is scheduled to arrive at Dahej, Gujarat, on June 18.

According to an official from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Disha’s safe passage indicates a gradual return of commercial traffic through this critical chokepoint, following recent diplomatic advancements in the region. The ministry emphasized that the Directorate General of Shipping is actively coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian missions overseas, shipping companies, and other stakeholders to ensure the safety of Indian seafarers and support vessel movements in the Gulf.
