Iran’s top security official, Mohsen Rezaei, has announced that the country is taking steps to activate overland trade corridors. This initiative aims to decrease Iran’s reliance on maritime shipping routes and to mitigate the effects of ongoing maritime blockades.
Rezaei emphasized Iran’s strategic geographic location, sharing borders with 15 neighboring countries, which provides the nation with viable alternatives to sea trade. This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance Iran’s economic resilience and operational independence in the face of external pressures.
In addition, Rezaei revealed that Iran and Oman have reached an agreement to establish a new international trade corridor through the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz. He indicated that this corridor will be managed by Iran and is expected to be officially announced in the near future.
“The new international corridor that Iran manages has been determined with the Omani brothers and will be announced in the coming days,” Rezaei stated, as reported by state media. This development highlights Iran’s efforts to strengthen its trade capabilities and foster regional partnerships amid challenging geopolitical circumstances.
