JSW Infrastructure Ltd, part of the $23 billion JSW group, is set to evaluate a proposed greenfield deep-sea port location at Dadanpatrabar in West Bengal. This comes after the Suvendu Adhikari-led government announced the shift from Tajpur to Dadanpatrabar. The move aligns with the company’s commitment to support the state’s industrial growth and increasing cargo demands.
Dadanpatrabar offers advantages, such as government land suitable for developing infrastructure facilities, including warehouses and enhanced rail and road connectivity. Chief Minister Adhikari announced the site after discussions with Karan Adani, CEO of APSEZ, and Union Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, highlighting a superior navigational channel that connects the berthing facility to the sea.
Rinkesh Roy, Joint Managing Director & CEO of JSW Infrastructure, stated that securing necessary permissions for the navigational channel is crucial, and the firm will assess the suitability of the new location accordingly.
While the Bengal government’s approach to the new port development remains uncertain, JSW has already secured the ₹832.25 crore Kolkata Port Container Terminal project, which will significantly enhance cargo operations at East India’s largest port by adding approximately 0.93 million TEUs of annual capacity.
