DP World’s Container Terminal in Cochin achieved a new volume record in the fiscal year 2024-25, handling 834,665 TEUs with an 11% year-on-year growth. This surpassed the previous record of 754,237 TEUs from the previous financial year. Various segments, including transshipment volume, foreign exports, coastal exports, reefer volumes, and single-vessel volume transactions, also set new records. With 640 vessel calls per annum, DP World Cochin plays a crucial role in regional trade and supply chain efficiency in South and East India.
In FY 2024-25, DP World Cochin expanded its capacity by upgrading infrastructure with new STS cranes, electrified e-RTGs, and increased yard space, raising total capacity to around 1.4 million TEUs. Upgrades in power infrastructure and the 100% electrification of yard cranes, along with an in-house solar plant, reduce the terminal’s carbon footprint. The handling of ULCVs above 350 meters solidifies DP World’s ability to accommodate growing trade volumes.
Furthermore, Kerala’s first FTWZ within a major port saw significant growth, handling 2,255 metric tons of cargo in the same fiscal year. This reinforces the FTWZ’s critical role in enhancing trade efficiency and economic growth in the region. Praveen Joseph, CEO of DP World Ports & Terminals, Cochin, emphasized the terminal’s commitment to becoming the preferred gateway port for the South Indian market, focusing on capacity expansion, new solutions like the FTWZ, and sustainability.
Direct mainline connectivity provided by DP World Cochin to key regions like the Far East and Middle East allows for 50% of cargo to be transported directly on mother vessels, reducing transit time by bypassing congested hubs. DP World continues to prioritize safety, innovation, and delivering top-notch solutions. Their dedication to leading the industry is evident in their operations at Cochin.
