Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd has marked a significant step in the global commercial shipbuilding sector by laying the keel for the fourth vessel in its Multi-Purpose Vessel (MPV) project. This event, held on May 30, showcases GRSE’s commitment to the “Make in India, Make for the World” initiative and highlights progress in fulfilling export orders, particularly for Germany’s Carsten Rehder Schiffsmakler und Reederei GmbH & Co. KG.
The MPV project is GRSE’s largest commercial shipbuilding export order to date and reflects the shipyard’s strategy to enhance its international presence. The keel-laying ceremony was attended by M. Venkatesh Murthy, GRSE’s Executive Director, along with senior officials and representatives from both the German shipping firm and DNV.
The project involves designing and constructing a series of advanced CORAL 7500 DWT vessels, initially starting with a contract for four vessels signed in 2024, later expanding to a total of twelve. Each vessel will be 120 meters long and capable of carrying up to 7,500 metric tonnes, featuring versatile cargo capabilities that include bulk, general, and project cargo, as well as containers and wind turbine blades.
Collaboration with German maritime firms, alongside technical support from SEDS, ensures the vessels meet high standards of design and certification, with DNV overseeing classification.
