A yacht currently under construction for a private owner will be the first to feature Steerprop’s smallest contra-rotating propeller (CRP) azimuth propulsors. This marks Steerprop’s inaugural project in the yacht sector. The vessel will be equipped with two 700 kW Steerprop SP 8 CRP propulsors, which provide exceptional thrust relative to their power input. This efficiency allows for smaller propulsor units compared to traditional single-propeller systems, making them ideal for space-limited applications like yachts.
An undisclosed shipyard is responsible for building the yacht, with Steerprop collaborating closely with the yacht builder to create a propulsion solution that meets the owner’s performance expectations while ensuring strong lifecycle value.
Steerprop’s larger CRP propulsors have been utilized in challenging Arctic and offshore environments for over two decades. The company’s design and engineering expertise have enabled the scaling down of these propulsors, extending their benefits to various applications, including tugboats, river cruise vessels, ferries, and leisure yachts.
Steerprop’s CRP technology boasts a rich history in the azimuthing propulsor market, with its first unit sold 25 years ago for the river cruise vessel River Aria.
