bound4blue has successfully installed a 22-meter-high eSAIL on the new multipurpose vessel Na Hiro E Pae, marking a significant advancement for both the vessel’s owner, Société de Navigation des Australes SNA Tuha’a Pae Shipping Company, and the broader adoption of wind propulsion technology. This vessel, known as a "goélette" in French Polynesia, is the first of its kind globally to implement a wind propulsion system, seamlessly connecting maritime heritage with modern shipping practices.
The installation took place at Astilleros Armon Vigo in Spain before the vessel’s delivery. Currently, Na Hiro E Pae operates between Tahiti and the remote Austral Islands, providing essential transportation for passengers and cargo, including food supplies. The vessel can accommodate up to 200 passengers while efficiently handling 1,500 tons of cargo, serving as a crucial link for local communities.
The eSAIL technology enhances fuel efficiency, promising significant savings and reduced greenhouse gas emissions. This installation is part of a growing trend, with bound4blue having deployed eSAIL systems on twelve ships and six more on order, totaling over 50 units. The technology contributes to a sustainable maritime future, integrating with alternative fuel engines and efficient waste management systems.
